For years I have been guilty of overcomplicating things. I would start working out with a program that required 60-90 minutes a day six days a week. If I was trying to clean up my diet, I’d go gluten-free, soy-free and vegan the same day.
Inevitably, these changes didn’t stick.
It has only been in the last few months where I’ve been focusing on simple steps towards healthier living that I’ve started to feel like I’m making progress towards a healthier me!
Today, I thought I’d share some of my favorite simple lifestyle changes that you can implement today.
This one may surprise you because we often forget the impact that the mind has on our health. Whether it is your workouts, eating habits or managing stress, what is going on in your mind will play a fundamental role in the outcome.
I’ve recently started journaling as a way to stay focused, positive and grateful. It is also a great way to sort things out when I’m feeling conflicted or overwhelmed and to keep track of my health goals.
I am a big fan of using a journaling app, mostly because this fits my lifestyle and because I love the way that it allows me to add photos and capture life. Pen and paper journals are also a great option!
I firmly believe that everyone should be taking a probiotic, and research supports this. A 2012 study by the researchers at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions showed that probiotic supplementation can lower cholesterol in high cholesterol patients. Another study from the October 2012 issue of the British Journal of Nutrition, showed that probiotic-supplement takers experienced a shorter duration of colds with less severe symptoms.
Lately, my go-to probiotic has been Florastor® Daily Probiotics. It is the only probiotic brand with Saccharomyces boulardii lyo CNCM I-745 which helps you to restore your flora. Florastor is great at helping the body naturally absorb water and nutrients as well as break down carbs and fiber. It is the best selling probiotic worldwide and backed by over 60 years of use and research. I love that it is vegetarian, gluten-free, and contains non-GMO ingredients.

No, I don’t mean novels. (Although that can be a great way to unwind.) What I am talking about is making time to read something positive every day for 30 minutes. This can be a motivational book, quotes or a business book that offers encouragement.
As someone who easily gets overwhelmed and can “fall down the rabbit hole” of negativity, I can’t tell you how many times taking time out to read has been a game changer for me.
Make a Small Commitment to Fitness
Those of you out there with a lifelong fitness habit, I admire you. I want to become you.
This one is for those that struggle with it – like me.
The problem has always been that I’ve always let myself get overwhelmed by the idea that if I was working out, it needed to be for an hour six days a week. Until now, it has always been all or nothing.
These days, I’ve made a commitment that I will be active for at least twenty minutes a day.
Sometimes, it is just an evening walk on the beach.
What happens is that often I get started and don’t want to quit, so I’m working our more than ever without the self-imposed pressure.
What are your go-to strategies for a healthier you?
