For as long as I can remember, stockings have been one of my favorite parts of Christmas.
I have such vivid memories of sitting at my Mom’s feet while she made stockings for the family. I was five years old, and it was the first year that her parents ever came to us for the holidays. She spent so much energy making sure everything was special that year.
To this day, I can still see her sewing room and smell the deliciousness coming from our kitchen. I can feel the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning to a new bike, a cowgirl costume from the Sears catalog and the stocking I’d watch her make filled to the brim with goodies.
Over the years, my stockings were filled with many things – from small toys to make-up.
The one constant and something I always looked forward to was the special candy treats that “Santa” always left me.
Now that I’m the Mom I have so much fun filling my kid’s stockings! All three of my children seem to forget that the stockings are there while they open their presents, and then their faces light up when they remember that there is more to come.
This year, I’m planning on lots of yummy treats from the Nestlé Holiday seasonal offerings, and even planning a craft that we can make together on Christmas day.
You can rest assured that it will be a simple craft because this is me we are talking about.
These Candy Cane Reindeer, which were inspired by something I saw on Pinterest, are easy and fun to make. Even my three-year-old will be able to join in the fun.
I’m going to make one for each of them to top of their stockings, and then include everything they need to make one themselves on Christmas morning.
They are also great to adorn your gingerbread houses!
I love that they are free from artificial colors and flavors.
It will take special effort not to eat their stockings before the big day!
Butterfingers Peanut Butter Cups Minis marry two of my favorites and are the perfect poppable treat. What could be better than the combination of smooth peanut butter with the crispety, crunchy pieces of Butterfingers filling encased in a milk chocolate coating? I love how that the festive red and green foil-wrapping makes them perfect for candy dishes.
They would also be great to use in baking. (If there were any left, that is!)
SweeTARTS Soft & Chewy Ropes are a soft, chewy, cherry-flavored licorice rope that packs a tart punch-flavored center. I think it is so fun that they have a gift tag printed directly on the package!
Making these Candy Cane Reindeers for your kids stockings is so simple!
You will need:
8 Pixy Stix Filled Candy Canes
4 brown pipe cleaners
8 googly eyes
4 small red pom-poms
4 pieces SweeTARTS Soft & Chewy Ropes
Place two candy canes together and wrap them with the pipe cleaner.
Glue on the eyes.
Stretch out a SweeTARTS Soft & Chewy Rope slightly, and wrap around the candy canes to create a scarf. Secure with glue. (For an edible option, I recommend using a dot of frosting or melted chocolate.
