I am thrilled to be able to share a recipe with you today from a new book by Tess Masters, The Blender Girl Smoothies: 100 Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Paleo-Friendly Recipes.
Most of us drink smoothies from time to time, but Tess’s smoothie recipes take blending to a whole new level. She uses herbs, spices, greens, oils and superfoods to create blends that create smoothies that take you on a flavor journey. If you’ve been holding your nose trying to chug down that same green smoothie every day, suffer no more! Tess’s recipes have my whole family enjoying their fruits and veggies.
I love the book for many reasons. Not only is is beautiful, but the creativity and variety is just incredible. I like to think that I am somewhat creative in the kitchen, but I would have never thought to come up with recipes like a Black Forest Cake smoothie or a Banana-Coconut Cream Pie smoothie. I love that each recipe has icons that flag them for health goals or dietary preferences with smoothies that are low-fat, low-carb, high protein, alkaline, anti-inflammatory, gluten-free, nut-free, vegan, paleo, unsweetened, great for weight loss, detox and more.
The Blender Girl Smoothies is broken down into four parts. To start, Tess shares her smoothie secrets, including six steps to spectacular smoothies. I really like the helpful chart to build your own smoothie. Next up is a guide to help you find your perfect blend. And of course, there are the recipes – over 100 of them so you will never get bored. And finally, a section on stocking your smoothie pantry.

- 1 cup (240ml) coconut water or water
- 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
- 3 limes, peeled and quartered
- 1 cup (25g) torn-up curly green kale leaves (1 or 2 large leaves with stalk removed)
- 1/2 cup (18g) firmly packed mint
- 2 cups (320g) frozen pineapple
- 5 drops alcohol-free liquid stevia, plus more to taste
- Throw all of the ingredients into your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.
1 teaspoon wheatgrass powder
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 teaspoon coconut oil
