Supporting all of you bodies functions is important – but most of us don’t give much thought to our thyroid. Increasingly in the modern world, our immune systems become over-taxed, and one of the things that can suffer is our thyroid. Properly supporting your thyroid can be a powerful way to bring your body into balance.
There are a lot of ways you can help your thyroid – one of them is diet. I tried a dramatic diet change (auto-immune Paleo) which helped in some areas but ultimately left me more depressed and feeling like I would never have a good relationship with food again.
I needed to find a way to give my body what it needs without driving myself crazy.
First, I want to say that I firmly believe in bio-individuality. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for the next. For me, and extreme Paleo auto-immune diet felt all wrong because I felt deprived, uncreative and sad when it came to food. For someone for whom food is how they make a living, this is a huge deal. If this type of diet works for you, GO FOR IT! There is a ton of research that supports that this can be one of the best ways to help support your thyroid.
If it doesn’t work for you, don’t give up hope. Most all experts agree that giving up gluten is critical. I’ve found this is critical for me. I don’t struggle at home at all, but I do when we eat out, and honestly I think this will always be an issue for me. I pay for it dearly. My parents visited for about 2 1/2 weeks around the holidays and Vincent, and I were able to eat out almost daily. I didn’t overeat, but simply adding the gluten back to my diet lead to an eight-pound weight gain, bloating and the re-appearance of digestive issues.
What I haven’t fully tacked is giving up dairy. I love cheese and after being vegan for a year, I find myself very reluctant to giving it up. I try to eat only raw grass-fed cheese and to limit my consumption.
My recommendation would be to do an elimination diet and discover what your triggers are. Sadly, even if gluten isn’t a trigger for you, most experts believe that you need to avoid it.
Choosing an Essential Oil Company to Trust with Your Health is a Big Decision
I recommend Rocky Mountain Oils because I honestly believe they are the best oils for the money. They have strong ethics about oil production and grow their oils in their native environment. All of their oils are either organically certified, organically grown or wild crafted with no adulterating. (Most oils you buy at the local health food store are adulterated with propylene glycol or a similar substances. )
I love that they are NOT an MLM, so there are no required orders or membership fees. They offer free shipping, so it makes sense to order even if you just need one bottle!
