I grew up in a traditional Southern family. Sweets and treats were always on the menu. I don’t ever remember visiting my Grandmother’s house without their being cakes, cupcakes, homemade candy, muffins and pies.
To this day, I wonder how she always managed to make such abundance seem effortless. It’s not like she wasn’t also cooking three meals a day.
I can’t say that I’ve continued in her tradition of having endless treats on hand, but our family does enjoy them.
Unlike my Grandmother, for the most part, I bake gluten free. (My husband and boys are not gluten free, so this isn’t a hard and fast rule.) I’m also a bit more likely to rely on fast and easy recipes. A perfect example is these awesome looking blueberry muffins – ready in less than 15 minutes!
Right now I’m in the mode of starting to prepare for the holidays. Food is such a big part of me, and every year I put a lot of effort into new recipes and menus.
Once we hit Halloween, it always seems like we are full speed ahead. We’ve got my birthday, Thanksgiving, my oldest son’s birthday, Christmas, New Years and my youngest son’s birthday, all packed within what always feels like a short time-span.
In addition to this there are parties, special events and family nights that I want to make special. All of this means I need a little extra help to get it all done.
One event that I am looking forward to is the 49th Annual Country Music Awards, which will air live from the Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 4 at 8/7c. This year, Martha White® is one of the sponsors.
I always love watching the dozens of performances and priceless moments as the industry celebrates its finest entertainers.
I am a big fan of making a night in special by creating an atmosphere of celebration with food. This year, I thought I would recreate one of my childhood treats to enjoy during the 49th Annual Country Music Awards.
I headed to Kroger and picked up some of the Martha White® Muffin Mixes. Isn’t it exciting that they now have gluten free options?
I’m going to be making some Mini-Chocolate cupcakes with a German Chocolate Topping. I love how my family is going to feel special without me having to spend all day in the kitchen. Stay tuned for the recipe!
