I am a generally happy person, but from time to time I feel like my mood needs a boost. Luckily there are many things that we can do to elevate our moods naturally.
One of the simplest ways is getting in the habit of practicing gratitude. “Gratitude is the most changeable character strength because it’s about mindfulness – something anyone can do,” according to Giacomo Bono, PhD, and Psychology professor at California State University. Although it is true that genetics account for at least half of our happiness, the other half is under our control. Appreciating what you have lowers your stress level and can increase happiness.
Exercise is another great way to help elevate your spirits. I know – when you are feeling low it is often the last thing that you want to do. But trust me, even something as simple as going for a walk outside can have a tremendous positive impact on your mood.
