If you are reading this, chances are you’ve noticed that this website exists.
And now you’ve probably also noted that I’m a master at stating the obvious.
Since this website is growing and my other websites (Mama Balance and Cooking Quinoa) aren’t, I’ve started to get some questions about what is going on.
I thought I would share with you what is in the works.
(With the obvious disclaimer that I’m a woman and reserve the right to change my mind at absolutely any moment. :))
For those of you who have been around for a while, you probably know that I’ve been blogging at Cooking Quinoa since 2010.
That website was an accidental success as I never set out to be a food blogger. In fact, when I started it I didn’t even know what a food blog was.
I am so grateful for all that it has been.
Around the time I found out I was pregnant with Skye, I launched Mama Balance. Why? Because I really felt that I was in a terrible rut and was tired of being limited to just sharing the quinoa side of my life when there is obviously so much more.
Due to the fact that I totally suck at being pregnant (that is a medical diagnosis by the way), that website never really got off the ground.
I briefly started a website called MotherNatureRx to support my growing essential oil business and as an outlet for my growing passion for essential oils and all things natural.
If the idea of all of these different blogs makes your head spin, then you know what I’ve been dealing with for the last year or so.
At some point you have to be honest with yourself and realize that you’ve spread yourself too thin. As much as I’d like to be wonder woman, I’m not and trying to do too many things at once meant I wasn’t doing anything well.
I’ve been torn with the decision for a while, but have finally decided that just having one website is what feels right for me at this moment.
At this point, all of MotherNatureRX, most of MamaBalance and a handful of recipes from Cooking Quinoa have been transferred over to this website.
(The transfer is a painful task because it is being done manually. There are a lot of reasons for that but the biggest is that there are issues with the CookingQuinoa database and we want this new website to run smoothly, without the hang ups and delays that you often experience on Cooking Quinoa.)
In time, all of the content from all of the websites will reside here, in what I hope remains a very clean and easy to navigate place that supports your desire for great food and healthy living.
Here are some questions I’ve been asked
So is Cooking Quinoa going away?
In its current form, yes. But that is going to take some time.
The navigation on the new website is a little difficult. What’s up with that?
Please be patient – it is a work in progress. The current archives that you get when you click on the category pictures at the top of the home page are place holders until I get more content on the website and can create the visual index. When we are done you will be able to click on the picture of recipes (or any category) and be taken to a visual index that displays posts by sub-category.
But I just want quinoa recipes. Will I still be able to get that?
Absolutely! There will be a separate landing page for quinoa recipes with a visual index for each sub-category. If anything, you should have cleaner navigation that you do now when we are done. I am very much hoping to be able to keep ads to a minimum and improve the user experience.
How long will this transfer take?
Can you ask Skye how much I’m going to be able to work??! Kidding. Kind of. Hopefully it will be done in the next several months but my life has a way of getting crazy.
What’s going on with your email and Pinterest issues?
This is a realllly touchie subject around our house.
As you may or may not know, hubby is very technical. He decided that my new website needed an SSL certificate (https) because Yoast says they are good. Although he may well be right about this, this has become the bane of my existence causing all kinds of issues.
Disclosure: This is probably because I am a techno-moron that has to ask her 10 year old to get the TV on for his little sister because she can’t do it.
First, the email issues. Any time there is a non-https link (like say to Cooking Quinoa) in my emails, many peoples browsers are blocking them from opening the links because the email is coming from a “secured” server and it contains non-secured (normal http) links. So basically, if I want to send a recipe to my CookingQuinoa list I have to put it on WendyPolisi because otherwise at least 1/3 of my list won’t be able to get to the recipe. There may still be some other junk going on but that is what I know for now.
Next up, there is a glitch with Pinterest and them being able to fetch images from the website. We payed our uber-technical tech guy to create a work around for us. He did so, but now the nodes (Don’t ask me what a node is, just nod, K?) on our server keep crashing and taking the website with it. This is supposed to be fixed. For the fifth time. But do let me know if you have issues with either Pinterest or the server.
I can tell you that we WILL get these issues fixed and most definitely before a significant number of quinoa recipes live here.
So now that you know what is going on in my digital world, I’d love to get feedback & suggestions.
