I try not to take life too seriously, but sometimes it is hard.
Like most of you Moms, I get overwhelmed.
There is grocery shopping to do, a house to clean, meals to prepare and dentist appointments to schedule.
And let’s not even get into all the things there are to worry about.
Are the boys getting enough sleep?
How much fighting is normal with tween brothers?
Is Skye eating enough to stay healthy?
Should I start teaching her to read?
Will I be tying her shoes when she’s twelve?
How am I going to convince them all to eat quinoa for dinner…AGAIN?
Between all of this and running a business from home, some days my brain needs a pause button.
One of the best ways I’ve found to reset is to take a few minutes out to play a game. It sounds crazy, but a five-minute time-out to do something that seems frivolous is often all I need to survive the afternoon.
Card games have always been a part of my life, and are still my go-to when I need a few minutes not to think.
I remember so clearly as a child visiting my grandmother’s house. She lived it a tiny town where there wasn’t much to do. I must have been eight or nine when she taught me how to play Solitaire. Card games were always a big part of visiting her.
Now they are my escape! These days it is so easy to play on my phone – because let’s face it, the minute I got a deck of cards out I’d be playing 52-pick-up with Skye.
A quick card game on my phone is the perfect 5-minute time out in the middle of the busy holiday season.
I love Solitaire by MobilityWare – the original maker of Solitaire with daily challenges. These special challenges allow you to receive a new crown each day. You can earn new trophies each month by winning more crowns. They always have fun new features, like special holiday themes.
You can even make your friends wonder what you are up to with Solitaire iMessage Stickers in your text messages!
I like playing by myself, but if you are the competitive sort you can challenge other players in real-time. Solitaire will deal the same hand to you both, and you can compete against time. You can do this with friends or a random stranger.
