I am a lifelong troubled sleeper, as is my Dad.
I first started suffering from occasional insomnia when I was a child. I can remember nights where my Dad and I roamed the halls.
Because of this, I feel blessed that only one of my three kids has sleep issues.
We are managing her sleep well now, but she got up every night until she was almost four.
It wasn't ideal, but since I was already up most of the time…
We aren't alone in our sleep issues. It is estimated that some 60 million Americans suffer from occasional insomnia. This can lead to poor concentration, agitation, dizziness, and headaches. Poor sleep can also play a role in the development of illness.
One of the ways we have helped both of us sleep better is by using this Sleep Rollerball Recipe.
It smells amazing and has us drifting off to sweet slumber in no time!
You can check out this Sweet Dreams Spray. We use it on Skye's linens and stuffed animals.

Research has shown that certain smells and essences found in essential oils can help to relax the mind and body. This is because the part of the brain that controls emotion is directly tied to our olfactory system. (The body system that controls our sense of smell.). I recommend taking 1-2 days off per week. You can switch to a different blend for sleep, or just take a night off from using oils altogether. This helps the blend to stay effective for you.
This blend is safe for children over two, though I typically use a lower dilution. Between the ages of 2 and 6, I would recommend using 5 drops of lavender, and 3 of vetiver and Roman Chamomile.
Yes! Using oils both topically and aromatically is fine, but you want to make sure that you don't put too much oil in your diffuser. Some oils are best used in small amounts because they become stimulating at high doses.

So going to try this. My sleep is not the best, waking up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Of course my cat doesn't help any. Can I use it on him too? Just kidding, know you need to be very careful with eo's around cats.

Haha, yeah, I would keep it away from your cat. Let me know how it goes!

IM making this for a friend’s 8 mo old. Should I use the full recipe or cut it down for a child this young? Thanks for your post!
Wendy Polisi
I would not use this for an 8 month old. This recipe is safe for children over two - I've got instructions in the post for the proper dilution between the ages of 2 and 6. At 8 months I would add no more than 1 drop of lavender (and no other oil) to a 10ml roller bottle. I really like hydrosols instead of oils at this age.
