Did you know that the flavorings in many commercial mouth washes can negatively impact your mouth flora? This healthy DIY Mouthwash is a natural alternative. It is antibacterial and can even help to combat bad breath. And bonus: you can easily make it for a fraction of the cost of traditional mouthwashes.
I can’t remember the last time I bought mouthwash because it is loaded with all kinds of nasties. Synthetic colors and flavorings, sorbitol, saccharin and harsh chemicals. Not to mention the high percentage of alcohol, which has been associated with an increased risk of mouth and throat cancer thanks to altering the pH of the mouth.
But, that doesn’t mean I don’t use it.
These days, I make my own with essential oils. It works great, leaves my breath smelling fresh and I get to skip all the added chemicals.
I’d call that a huge success.
I don’t add any type of sweetener to this, which leaves it with a strong taste. Feel free to add a little stevia if you want to.
1 cup aloe vera juice
1/2 cup distilled water
1 tablespoon witch hazel
2 teaspoons baking soda
20 drops peppermint essential oil
Mix ingredients in a glass bowl and pour into the bottle.
Store in a 16 ounce bottle for up to two weeks.
The Quality of The Essential Oils You Use Matters!
After looking closely at the quality, purity, and ethics of so many companies, I’ve fallen in love with both the company and their oils. They have a large line of organic oils and are serious about safety. Every single batch is tested to ensure purity!
