What is Oxidative Stress?
I am by no means a scientist, so for those of you who don’t know, I will try to break this down in the simplest of terms.
You’ll remember from biology class that molecules are made up of atoms with a nucleus in the center and electrons that spin around the nucleus. Typically, electrons occur in pairs, and this keeps the atom and molecule stable. If a molecule loses or gains and electron, it becomes unbalanced.
This unbalanced molecule is called a free radical. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can cause cell damage. They do this as they try to stabilize themselves, stealing electrons from other molecules. Oxidative stress occurs, and cell damage continues while the cells attempt to regulate themselves. Ultimately, health is compromised, and disease can result.
Enough science for one day?! Ok, let’s move on.

Since I love putting Superberries Organic Aroniaberry Concentrate in my smoothies so much, I thought I would share a favorite recipe with you. This Strawberry Superberry Smoothie is so easy to make, packed with nutrients and kid friendly!
Strawberry Superberry Smoothie
- 1 cup diced strawberries
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Superberries Organic Aroniaberry Concentrate
- 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds*
- 1 tablespoon quinoa flakes or oatmeal
- 1 tablespoon coconut palm sugar to taste
- Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Add ice if desired.
Recipe Notes*If you aren't used to eating flax seeds you may want to start with a teaspoon and build up.
