Inspired By Our New Favorite, Burt’s Bees Toothpaste
Everyone wants a beautiful smile, but how much thought do you give to your overall oral health? We recently began using the New Burt’s Bees Toothpaste and have been loving it so much it inspired our blog post for this week.
You might brush your teeth three times a day, and maybe even floss on a regular basis. (You superstar, you!) Despite this, most experts agree that we should be paying even more attention to our oral health.
According to periodontist and spokeswoman for the American Dental Association Sally Cram, “We say your mouth is the window to your overall health. It can show signs of a lot of different things, from nutritional deficiencies to systemic disease.”
Understanding this, it probably doesn’t surprise you that nine out of ten dentists believe that dental and medical professionals should work collaboratively because oral health issues are often linked to other conditions.
4 Tips to Achieve a Healthy Smile
1. Choose Your Toothpaste Wisely – My Choice For Our Family is The New Burt’s Bees Toothpaste
Our family loves the new Burt’s Bees Toothpaste! It is different from standard toothpaste because it is made with simple but effective ingredients and is free from sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), triclosan, parabens, preservatives, dyes, plastic microbeads, and artificial flavors and sweeteners. Definitely things I don’t want in my toothpaste!
Best of all, the toothpaste is available in both fluoride and fluoride-free formulas, which gives me the freedom to determine what is right for my family! They have three adult formulas and two kids formulas which address all the critical areas of oral care – strong teeth, whitening, and freshness.
The Burt’s Bees fluoride toothpaste works just like the leading toothpaste at fighting cavities but is formulated with ingredients that you can trust.
We love the flouride-free option as well, which leaves our mouth feeling clean, and our breath fresh. Finally – there is no need to trade off ingredients to get stellar performance and a great experience!
It has always been such a struggle to get Skye to be happy about brushing her teeth, but she loves the kid’s line! Finally – no more teeth-brushing battles!
To be honest, I do have a gripe about the Burt’s Bees Toothpaste. My boys like it, maybe too much. When they ran out of theirs, they came down to my bathroom to “borrow” mine. The problem? THIS is how they left it! They brought it back to me empty!
Needless to say, I had to hightail it to Target and pick up some more.
You can find the entire Burt’s Bees Toothpaste line online now at Target.com as well as in-store.

2. Brush Right
Most people know that they need to brush their teeth two to three times a day. While most of us do this, many of us are not brushing our teeth long enough. To prevent bacteria from gaining a foothold and for optimal dental health, we should brush for at least two minutes each time. According to Salvador Nares, director of research and head of the periodontics department at the University of Illinois and Chicago College of Dentistry, brushing in a circular motion is the most efficient.
I like to set a timer on my phone so that I make sure I get my two full minutes in!
3. Keep Your Toothbrush in Ship Shape!
You know that it is important to brush your teeth, but did you ever realize that your toothbrush can actually make you sick if you don’t care for it properly? Because your toothbrush is left wet, it is especially susceptible to picking up germs. So if you or anyone in your household is sick, it is important to clean your toothbrush on a regular basis. The easiest way to clean it is to drop the heat into a small cup of hydrogen peroxide.
You should change your toothbrush every two or three months, or when the bristles aren’t straight anymore.
4. Floss Daily
You know you need to do it, but it is one of those habits that is easy to skip. Flossing removes plaque along the gumline from areas that the toothbrush can’t reach! According to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, it is estimated that 75 percent of Americans are dealing with some sort of gum or periodontal disease. Prevention is your number one goal when it comes to healthy teeth and gums.
These four simple steps will help improve your overall oral health, providing you with a healthy smile!
