Ingredients
- Ground Beef: You can use 80/20, 85/15, or even 90/10 ground beef for this recipe. Ground turkey could also be used.
- Breadcrumbs: Use plain regular or panko bread crumbs. If you are gluten-free, substitute a gluten free breadcrumb.
- Onion: Yellow or white onion is best here.
- Eggs: I use large eggs, but you could use whatever you have on hand.
- Salt: You'll want a teaspoon of sea salt or kosher salt per pound of meat.
- Pepper: Freshly ground black pepper is best.
- Oil: Use an oil with neutral flavor. I like avocado oil, but vegetable oil would work too.
- Mushrooms: White button mushrooms, cremini, baby belllas or your favorite variety work well here.
- Beef Broth: You can use low sodium beef broth if desired.
- Gravy mix: Use a store-bought brown gravy mix to make crockpot salisbury steak.
- Mustard: Yellow mustard adds a nice zing to the gravy.
- Cornstarch: Cornstarch is used to thicken the gravy in this recipe. If you don’t have cornstarch, ¼ cup all purpose flour may be substituted.

Tips & Tricks
- Choose the right type of ground beef: To get the best texture and flavor for crock pot hamburger steak, choose ground beef with a higher fat content, such as 80/20 or 85/15. This will help keep the meat juicy and tender during the long cooking process.
- Don't overmix the beef: When forming the beef patties, be careful not to overwork the meat. Overmixing can result in tough and dry patties.
- Use fresh herbs and aromatics: Adding fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or parsley can really take the flavor of your dish to the next level. You can also add some garlic for added depth of flavor.
- Free free to play with the seasonings: Worcestershire sauce, dry onion soup mix, garlic powder and onion powder are nice additions.
- Serve with mashed potatoes: There's nothing quite like serving Salisbury steak with creamy mashed potatoes. It's the ultimate comfort food combination that's sure to warm you up on even the coldest of nights. You could also serve with rice or egg noodles. Round out the meal with some fresh veggies - green beans and carrots are a nice addition to the plate.
Storage
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat them on the stovetop or in the microwave.
