This Matcha Green Tea Latte with lemon and collagen protein is an excellent way to start the day! With creamy cashew milk, a touch of sweetener, this latte just may replace your coffee.
I’ve been a tea drinker all of my life.
For years my go-to drink (other than water) has been unsweetened black tea.
After hearing about the health benefits of green tea - including boosting metabolism, helping with weight loss, fighting free radicals and maybe even work to prevent cancer - I’ve become a little obsessed with it this year.
Recently I discovered Matcha Green Tea, and it has become my after workout drink in place of coffee. (I work out first thing in the morning.)
If you like the health benefits of green tea, you are going to LOVE Matcha. It is more nutrient dense than green tea because you are drinking the entire green tea leaf, not just the tea water. I once heard it explained that Matcha is to green tea as Kobe beef is to steak.
Both matcha and green tea come from the plant Camellia sinensis. The difference is that the matcha tea bushes are shielded from direct sunlight for a month before the leaves are harvested. Once harvested they are ground into a fine powder.
Matcha green tea is high in antioxidants, amino acids, and chlorophyll. (The shade growing is what helps to increase the amount of chlorophyll in the tea leaves.)
Matcha Green Tea l-theanine Content
L-theanine is the most prevalent amino acid in Matcha. It is important because it increases serotonin, dopamine, and GABA. L-theanine is known to have a calming effect on the brain. I love that it gives me focused energy without jitters. (It does contain caffeine if you happen to be sensitive.)
How Do You Make Matcha Green Tea?
The typical way to make Matcha green tea is to dissolve 1 teaspoon of matcha leaves in 2 ounces of warm water. Whisk and then serve or dilute and sweeten to taste.
Can Your Drink Matha Cold?
Yes, you can! I like to add it to my protein shake if I have it early in the day.

Is Matcha Green Tea a Fat Burner?
You might have heard that matcha green tea can help you lose weight. Numerous studies back this! Both green tea and Matcha green tea have been shown to support weight loss. Although nothing can outrun a bad diet, drinking this Matcha Green Tea Latte may help you loose weight.

I am more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker. However, if we do go out for tea, Matcha green tea is the one I always have. It does not only taste delicious but the health benefits it gives you is tops!

Not a tea lover in any way, but thanks for the heads up about the caffeine, I had no idea that Matcha had caffeine in it. Even when I drink soda I try to drink the caffeine free version of it. I do 'green' drinks but mostly cold pressed juices.

I've always been a coffee drinker, but I am growing to love and appreciate tea more and more. There are so many benefits to drinking tea. This latte sounds delightful, especially with the creaminess from the cashew milk.
