If you like steak, you’re going to fall in love with grilled filet mignon! This delicious, tender cut of beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Top with a bit of compound butter, and get ready for your taste buds to sing!

You can also choose to cook this beautiful steak on an outdoor grill or in a Ninja Foodi Grill (no more grilling outside in the dead of winter!) Now you can enjoy a restaurant-quality filet mignon right in your own home.

Steak is one of my family’s favorite foods. But for so long, I never thought I could make a steak at home that would be as good as what you get in a restaurant.

This grilled filet mignon instantly proves that theory wrong! It’s perfectly seasoned with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that makes it irresistible.

Filet mignon is known for being the most tender cut of steak. Because it’s a leaner cut of beef, it’s best served medium or medium-rare to keep it from drying out and losing that wonderful texture.

So today, I’ll be showing you how to grill filet mignon to perfection! Whether you use an outdoor gas grill or Ninja Foodi Indoor Grill, I know you’re going to love this simple but indulgent steak recipe.

    Ingredients for Cooking Filet Mignon

    • Steak - You want 1½ pounds of prime, choice, or select filet mignon. Aim for something that is around 1 ½ to 2 inches thick.
    • Oil - I recommend using avocado oil because of its high smoke point. I do not recommend using extra virgin olive oil at high heat.
    • Seasoning - Dried rosemary, salt, and pepper really enhance the natural flavors of the filet mignon. I recommend either kosher salt or sea salt.
    • Compound butter - Learn to easily make your own here!

    Tips & Tricks

    • Before grilling filet mignon, let the steaks rest at room temperature for 1 hour. This makes it easier to evenly cook this filet mignon recipe.
    • Use a filet mignon grill time chart and instant-read thermometer to find the best cooking time. The instructions in this recipe are a good basis, but cooking time will always vary slightly based on the size and thickness of your steak.
    • Always let the steak rest before slicing into it. If you cut into it too soon, you’ll lose some of the juice that keeps the meat tender.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Do You Grill Filet Mignon?

On the outdoor grill, I cook my steak for 5 minutes per side. For a Ninja Foodi Grill filet mignon, I set the timer to 8 minutes for medium-rare or 10 minutes for medium and flip the steaks halfway through.

These times work well for me, but I always recommend meat thermometers to ensure the perfect heat. Cooking times will vary slightly based on the size and thickness of your steak.

    Should I Season Filet Mignon?

Because this steak has such an amazing flavor already, I recommend very mild seasonings that will bring out its natural flavor. I prefer to use dried rosemary, salt, and pepper.

What Grill Temp Should I Use?

For your outdoor grill, preheat to 500°F. If you’re using the Ninja Foodi Grill, select the Grill function and set the heat to high heat.

    What is Filet Mignon?

This refers to a cut of beef that comes from the tenderloin. It’s known for being the most tender cut of steak and is many people’s favorite.

Filet mignon tends to be more expensive because there is only a small amount you can get from each animal compared to other cuts of beef.

What is the Difference Between Filet Mignon and Beef Tenderloin?

Filet mignon is actually a part of the beef tenderloin. So while all filet mignons are technically beef tenderloin, not all beef tenderloin is filet mignon. Both cuts are known for being very tender.
