Heard about Plant Therapy Essential Oils and want to know how their quality stacks up against other major brands? Check out my Plant Therapy Review.
I burned Skye, and it was the beginning of the end.
Me, the ever-so-careful, slightly crunchy Mom trying to avoid harmful chemicals.
I had managed to create a massive burn on her stomach by using a Digestive Blend that I'd been told was "Just fine to use undiluted."
Of course, I had diluted it. (Because I'm neurotic that way. )
But here we were.
Skye screaming hysterically, me crying, hubby standing over the trash can ready to toss all 50 of my oils in.
I felt betrayed.
Betrayed by my precious oils.
Betrayed by the company and friends who had told me they were safe to use on my baby.
And angry.
Angry with myself.

Since when did I blindly accept what people told me and not do independent research?
It didn't take much research to learn that the company that I had so passionately aligned myself with was promoting practices that many felt were questionable.
Oils that shouldn't be used on small children encouraged. Casual internal use. General overuse. No focus on dilution. Marketing lingo to confuse consumers into believing their oils were superior to all others.
And I was guilty of promoting all of it because I blindly trusted what I'd been taught.
And that was when the break-up began.
Like all serious break-ups, it was a long and twisted road.
I wrestled with the decision.
I'd invested a lot of time. I'd thought we were a good pair.
There were times that I convinced myself that I was wrong.
Then I studied more, learned what true professionals (as opposed to sales people) taught.
It is hard to see someone or something you've loved in a different light.
In the end, they made it easy by taking actions that lead me to further question their ethics.
And so, I walked away.
Downline and all.
I was so upset that it has taken me over eighteen months to talk about it.
I'd invested so much time and energy. Studying, learning. Trying to be a resource for natural health.
I didn't know what was next.
The love for the oils was still there, but I couldn't muster the enthusiasm to bring them back into this space.
Eventually, I found a company I felt good about recommending and did a few posts, but the passion just wasn't there.
I never felt the connection I'd had previously.
When Plant Therapy, emailed me last year to talk about working together, I politely brushed them off.

I was all set. I didn't need a new oil company; I had one that I felt good about the quality of their product.
It would take months before I'd realize what I was missing.
I still had a love for sharing and educating people about essential oils.
What I didn't have was a partner.
A team I could bounce ideas off of, learn from, and share with.
I got back in touch with Plant Therapy to see if maybe, just maybe they could be the one.
We had some conversations. I learned more about the company. I tried their oils and other products and quickly fell in love.
Here's Why!
Plant Therapy Review
Plant Therapy is All About Safety
Since educating people about safer, natural options is important to me, I had to work with a company that had a serious commitment to safety.
I believe that Plant Therapy's commitment to safety is unparalleled.
The owners of the company are parents of four, and they were the first to create a full line of KidSafe® synergies. You can look at EVERY single bottle they produce and immediately tell if it is safe to use on your kids.
(On a side note, how fun are these Aroma Plushes?!)

What speaks volumes to me is that they have a full team of Aromatherapists on staff to answer any aromatherapy questions you have!
Education is a key part of their mission. They don't promote unsafe practices just because it will sell more oils.
Plant Therapy Has Teamed Up with Independent Industry Leaders to Ensure Quality in Every Batch
Because there are no industry standards, adulteration is common in the essential oil industry.
This is the practice of cutting oils with less expensive oils or adding synthetic chemicals. The result can be an oil that smells lovely but lacks therapeutic properties or worse, contain harmful properties.
It is only through performing testing on each batch of essential oils that you can see a breakdown of the chemical components, verify purity and the presence of therapeutic qualities.
Plant Therapy's standard of quality is among the strictest in the industry.
In addition to working with several independent laboratories to establish purity, but they also work directly with world-renowned essential oil expert Robert Tisserand. He is the expert that everyone who is concerned about safety looks to when it comes to essential oils. (He literally wrote THE BOOK on essential oil safety.)
Tisserand has been evaluating essential oils professionally for over 40 years, and every oil that Plant Therapy sells is first organoleptically tested by him before being sent to a third party testing facility. Several third-party labs then conduct both Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) testing.
Through multiple rounds of testing, the quality and purity of each oil is determined. If there is any indication that there is a contaminant or adulterant in the oil, they take it a step further and use chiral analysis, which is a more sophisticated form of gas chromatography, to find out if it is, in fact, a synthetic addition or if it is a natural constituent.
Only the best oils become Plant Therapy Essential Oils!

Let's Talk Transparency
Try to get access to testing results from many essential oil companies, and you will get a run-around about why they don't offer them. My former MLM company doesn't provide the information because "It contains propriety information."
Sorry, but that isn't logical. Lavender is either pure Lavender, or it isn't. If it is indeed pure and from nature, there should be nothing "proprietary" involved.
Some will try to charge you. I've even heard of some asking you to sign a non-disclosure agreement. (Whhhaaat?!)
There is so much going on in the essential oil market, that transparency is key to knowing that you are getting the best oils. One of the biggest reasons that I can recommend Plant Therapy Essential Oils without hesitation is that every bottle of oils that they produce has a specific batch code that tells us exactly what is in the batch of oil. This is directly linked to the Test Reports on each oils product page. You can go there and see each essential oil’s GC/MS testing.
The bottom line: Providing access to reports is as simple as an online link or a sheet of paper. It is a huge, huge red flag if a company refuses to provide this information.

Plant Therapy is a Family Run Business
One of the things that excites me most about Plant Therapy is that it is a family run company.
It is not only run by the owners, Chris and Amanda Jones but their family too!
Amanda’s sister, Retha is a certified aromatherapist and in charge of their blogging community. I have been in regular communication by both phone and email since I've begun exploring Plant Therapy. She is always happy to answer questions! I haven’t found any other company where the owners and managers are so accessible, and I think that has to do with the culture of a family business.
"Our ultimate goal is not to be the largest essential oil company; it is to positively impact the lives of as many people as humanly possible. Ultimately, I feel this is possible only by providing our customers with an exceptional experience that keeps them coming back. By selling such a high-quality product at an affordable price, we not only positively affect the lives of our customers, but it also gives us the financial means by which we can help those who are less fortunate to live a happier, healthier, and more productive life."
-Chris Jones, Owner of Plant Therapy
USDA Certified Organic Essential Oils
You know I love my organics, and I am just crazy about the fact that Plant Therapy offers a full line of USDA certified organic essential oils! All of their oils are pure, but it is amazing to have the option to order certified organic oils.
KidSafe Synergies
I mentioned before that Plant Therapy developed the first-ever line of essential oils especially for children. This line was created by Robert Tisserand and is safe, effective and kid friendly. They’ve avoided oils that can cause problems in young children. (Like the hot oils in that digestive blend I was talking about.)

Reasonable Prices
With essential oils cheaper doesn't always mean better. As I noted before, many oils (especially ones you buy in the store) are adulterated with synthetics. In that case, you have a fragrance but not a therapeutic oil.
I believe that Plant Therapy offers a tremendous value in the essential oil community. You get quality oils at a price you can afford without any commitment at all.
Fast Free Shipping
Free shipping AND free returns make shopping safe and easy!
The fact is that breakups suck.

Even when it is for the best they make you lose your way for a while.
I'd forgotten how much I loved sharing and educating people on essential oils.
So, for those of you who still want to learn, I am back and ready to share.

I'm glad you were able to find a new company to partner with that's more aligned with your principles and how you want to work. It seems like you work with a lot of direct-application oils - could you write about roll-on blends and things like that? Such as how best to use them, what oils work best for what purpose, etc.?
♥Nancy♥ says
Plant therapy sounds wonderful! 🙂 I feel bad that you had to go through that terrible ordeal with essential oils. 🙁 It will make me extra cautious!

So sorry to hear what happened to your child. But yes it is so vital to make sure high quality oils are used - glad that you were able to find a company that you can trust and provides such good quality.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I still love my YL oils but because of my own research, I know some of the practices promoted may not be the safest especially for children or pregnant woman or those on certain meds which they tend to leave the consumer to read the fine print (ultimately it's still ones own responsibility of what we use or put into our bodies, but still...). Because I know there are other good sources of oils out there and tend to support the smaller companies, I have my membership for the discount but no desire to make it a business. Just do your research is all I can say and when possible, opt for the organic oil for the most peace of mind - it's worth the extra $'s. I definitely plan on trying some of these oils.

I am with YL too, but their prices!!! I don’t like MLM. No business built, just personal use. I’ve used several Plant Therapy oils and Eden’s Garden with good results.

I have a scar on my abdomen from using the child version of the digestive oil. They told me that was ask rare to have such a reaction. I haven't trusted them since.
I'm excited to try this new brand

If you know your skin is sensitive, I would dilute heavily! And perhaps stick with oils marked Kid Safe.
