Ingredients
- Chocolate Protein Powder - This ingredient is the perfect way to impart an abundance of flavor and protein into your smoothie. If you don't have chocolate protein powder, feel free to substitute with cocoa powder, vanilla protein powder and a bit of your preferred sweetener.
- Chia Seeds - These add loads of nutrients to your smoothie. Chia seeds are a fantastic source of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. If chia seeds aren't your thing, ground flaxseeds would work just as well.
- Pitted Cherries - Cherries add a lot of sweetness. We love using frozen cherries as they make the smoothie thick. If cherries aren't in season and you can't find frozen, frozen strawberries are a great substitute as they pair beautifully with chocolate.
- Almond Milk - Almond milk is the perfect base for our Cherry Chocolate Smoothie. It's light and dairy-free. Any non-dairy milk like coconut milk, oat milk, or cashew milk would work wonderfully too. Of course, regular dairy mix is also a great option.
Step by Step
- Add all your ingredients into the blender and process until smooth.
- Optionally, add ice and process again.
Storage
If you're looking to store these for later, not to worry! Here is how.
For refrigeration, pour the smoothie into a mason jar and keep in the fridge for up to 2 days.
If you need to store them for a bit longer, pour the smoothie into an ice cube tray and keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you are ready to enjoy your smoothie, add some milk to your blender and then the ice cubes and process until smooth. You will have a frosty treat to enjoy with almost no effort.

I don't think I ever tried protein powder. I always assumed it would be full of preservatives. I will look for Ahola at Target.

We love smoothies at our house, but we've never used a protein powder. I usually use nut butters for healthy fats and proteins. Especially for the kids.
