Let’s Talk Ingredients
- Ground meat: My kids prefer ground beef in this recipe, but I’ve made this with ground pork, ground turkey, and ground chicken. They all work well. Pork is the closest to classic egg roll flavor. If you use chicken or turkey, make sure your griddle is well oiled because, in my experience, the leanness can cause it to stick.
- Coleslaw mix: As a busy mom, I rely on shortcuts like coleslaw mix every time. That said, if you want to shred your own vegetables, you absolutely can. I recommend a blend of cabbage and carrots, but feel free to use whatever extra veggies you have in the fridge. I’ve save the stems from broccoli and used broccoli salw in the mix with great success.
- Soy sauce: I stick with regular soy sauce here, but you could use gluten-free tamari, or coconut aminos.
- Broth: If you use pork or beef, you probably won’t need it. I do find that leaner cuts do better with a little extra liquid.
Step-by-Step

Tips & Tricks
- This recipe isn’t fussy, but make sure you don’t overcook once you add the cabbage mixture. You want the dish to have soft, but not mushy veggies.
- If you want more heat, add a little more sriracha or sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
- Prep everything before you start. Easy Blackstone recipes like this one move quickly, and there’s no pause button once the heat is on.
