Ingredients
- Granny Smith apples: These tart apples hold up well during baking, but you could use another type of apple if you like. I love using a combination of honeycrisp apples and granny smith.
- Unsalted butter: Salted will work if that is what you have.
- Lemon juice: Fresh is best, but bottled will work.
- Brown sugar: I used light brown sugar, but dark brown will work.
- Ground cinnamon: Use more or less according to your preference.
- Sea salt: Kosher salt works as well.
- All-purpose flour: A gluten-free flour blend could be used.
- Caramel sauce: You could use homemade or a good quality of purchased.
- Baking powder: Make sure it is fresh!
- Sugar: Both refined sugar and a natural cane sugar will work.
- Milk: Use whole milk or 2%.
- Egg: I used large eggs, but any size will work.
- Vanilla ice cream: Optional (but essential at my house!)
Step by Step

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream and drizzle with the remaining caramel sauce. Top with pecans or walnuts.
Tips and Tricks
- Mix your apple varieties with a blend of sweet and tart apples to change up the flavor.
- Don't overmix the topping; lumps add to the texture.
- Use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar for a different flavor.
- Let the cobbler cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
