Steak always feels like such a luxury, and it is one of the easiest meals you can make.

Why Get a Ninja Foodi Grill
As an amazon associate, I earn from qualified sales.
My daughter got me a Ninja Foodi Grill for Christmas, and since then, I have been more than a little obsessed with it.
The Ninja Foodi Grill allows you to enjoy your favorite grilled dishes year around. (Don't miss this Nina Foodi Grill chicken breast recipe.) Best of all, you don't have to worry about flair-ups caused by dripping fat.
If you have tried indoor grills before, you know that their convenience usually comes with a sacrifice in flavor and texture.
The Ninja Foodi Grill solves this problem with their Cyclonic Grilling Technology. Super-heated cyclonic air circulates around your food for all-over searing, while a high-density grill plate provides perfect grill marks.
It doubles as an air fryer and dehydrator, so it is more than just a grill!
Whether you utilize it to make your favorite Ninja Foodi grill side dish or to make your favorite chicken and beef recipes easier; I can't recommend it highly enough.
Ingredients for Making Steak in the Ninja Foodi Grill
- Butter: I used salted butter. If you want to use unsalted butter, you can add a bit of salt to the compound butter.
- Chives: If you don't have chives on hand, fresh rosemary or parsley are also great options. If you use rosemary, make sure that you chop it finely.
- Garlic: Fresh minced garlic is best here. If you do not have it, you could use garlic powder in a pinch.
- Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice adds a subtle hint of acid to the butter.
- Red Pepper Flakes: This adds a touch of heat but is not at all overpowering.
- Black Pepper: I recommend fresh ground black pepper.
- Steaks: I used strip steak, which is also sometimes called top loin, shell, sirloin strip, or Kansas City strip. If you choose a fattier cut, you may need to turn the temperature down a bit to avoid smoking.
- Seasonings: I generally recommend 1 teaspoon of salt per pound of meat. Adjust the amount to your liking.
- Oil: I use avocado oil for all of my high heat cooking. I don't recommend olive oil, but feel free to use your favorite high-heat oil.
Tips & Tricks
- Generally, strip steaks will be lean enough to avoid smoking. If you have a particularly fatty cut, try trimming the fat cab to ¼ inch thick or less to avoid excessive smoking.
- Salt your steaks for at least 1 hour or up to overnight before grilling. Salting ahead of time will help the salt get into the fibers of the meat, making it more juicy and tender. Pat the steaks dry just before salting and use at least one teaspoon per pound of meat. This helps to make the perfect steak every time!
- After slicing your steak, finish it with a touch of Maldon Sea Salt.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Know When My Steak is Done?
It is essential to understand that the thickness of your steak will determine the cooking times needed to achieve your ideal internal temperature. Thinner steaks can only need 4 to 8 minutes to cook, while a thicker steak may take 12 minutes or longer. (Of course, this also depends on how you like your steak cooked.)
The best way to check for your steak's doneness is with an instant-read thermometer. Take the meat off the grill at least 5 degrees before it reaches the desired temperature. The temperature will continue to rise as the steak rests.
120 degrees F - Rare
130 degrees F - Medium-Rare
140 degrees F - Medium
150 degrees F - Medium-Well
160 degrees F - Well Done
Should I Use a Probe Thermometer that Comes with the Ninja Foodi Grill to Monitor the Temperature of the Steak?
You can use the internal probe, but I find it easier and more reliable to use an Instant Read Thermometer. To use either, insert the thermometer through the side to check for doneness.
Can you use Olive Oil in the Ninja Foodi Grill?
I don't recommend using olive oil in the Foodi grill when cooking at high temperatures. Choose a heat-safe oil, like avocado oil instead.
Why Do I Need to Let My Steak Rest?
The muscle fibers of meat contract when it is cooked. Let your steaks rest on a wire rack set on a baking sheet loosely covered with foil for about 10 minutes. This helps the fibers to relax and to hold onto moisture when sliced.
How Do I Slice a Steak?
Slice your steak thinly against the grain. This will make it more tender to chew.

How to Cook a Steak in the Ninja Foodi Grill
First, start by making the compound butter.
To do this, place softened butter in a medium bowl and add the chives, garlic, lemon juice, crushed red pepper flakes, and black pepper.
Form the butter into a log with clean hands and wrap it with parchment paper.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Season the steaks and allow them to sit at room temperature for 1 hour. (You can skip this step if you are short on time.)
Select Grill High and allow your Ninja Indoor Grill to preheat.
When your grill is ready (it will say ADD FOOD), place the steaks on the grill plate.
Cook for 5 minutes and then flip. Cook for another 5 minutes or to desired doneness. (Use an instant-read thermometer to determine doneness.)
Remove from the grill and tent with foil.
Allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes and then serve.

This is the worlds greatest butter recipe. I marinade my steaks first in a recipe i found online that says worlds best marinade and then i use this butter recipe. Hands down this is the best steak when you use this combo that you will ever have in your life. I also use this butter on my baked potatoes and sauté some red onion to go on top. I could eat this butter by itself it’s so good and I’m not really a butter person. I had no clue what i was missing. I really love this article. I am new to cooking and so the pictures and information are great! Can’t wait to try more of these recipes. I will never stop making this steak and butter recipe!
