Ingredients & Substitutions
- Avocado Oil – Can be swapped for your favorite oil. You could use olive oil (not extra virgin), vegetable oil, ghee, or melted butter.
- Balsamic Vinegar – Lemon juice works well if you prefer a brighter, less sweet tang. Soy sauce is also an option for a different flavor profile.
- Broccoli Florets – Used bags of pre-chopped florets to save time.
- Sea Salt – Kosher salt or Himalayan salt can be used interchangeably based on preference.
- Black Pepper – Fresh ground is best. White pepper or red pepper flakes can add a different type of heat.
- Parmesan Cheese – Try Pecorino Romano for a sharper bite for your oven-roasted broccoli or nutritional yeast for a dairy-free option.
Tips & Tricks
- Dry the Broccoli – Excess moisture prevents crisping. Pat dry after washing for the best texture.
- Use High Heat – Roasting at 450°F ensures crispy edges and a tender center. If you want to use parchment paper instead of foil, reduce the temperature to 425°F, or whatever the highest safe temperature is for the parchment paper you choose.
- Don’t Overcrowd – Spread the florets in a single layer to allow even roasting.
- Flip for Even Browning – Stir halfway through cooking to get crispy edges all around.
- Customize the Flavor – Add garlic powder, red pepper flakes, or lemon zest for variety.
- Leftovers – If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheating in the microwave works best in my experience.
