Hot dogs are not just a summer staple; they're a fun family meal that can be enjoyed year-round. Today we are making an already easy meal even easier by cooking our hot dogs on the Blackstone Griddle.
The large cooking surface of your flat-top grill makes it super easy to cook hot dogs for a crowd.
Serve with Blackstone French Fries, Blackstone Chicken Wings, Blackstone Smash Burgers, or Blackstone Corn on the Cobb.

Ingredients
- Hot Dogs: I used all-beef hot dogs, but you could use pork hot dogs if you like. For a lighter option, turkey or chicken hot dogs work nicely, too.
- Butter: If you're looking for a dairy-free option, margarine or a plant-based butter will do the trick. Olive oil will also work if you are mindful of the smoke point.
- Hot dog buns: Elevate your hot dog experience by using your favorite high-quality bun. Brioche, pretzel, white, whole wheat, and gluten-free buns are all great options. You can foil-wrap your buns if you want them soft, or griddle toast them.
Why Score Hot Dogs Before Cooking?
The biggest reason is that the shallow cuts crisp up and char faster, giving you curled edges and caramelized bits that taste far better than a plain steamed-looking hot dog.
Scoring also keeps them from bursting randomly. Hot dogs are essentially packed emulsified meat under pressure, so when steam builds inside with nowhere to go, they pop. Scoring gives that pressure a controlled exit, so you decide where it opens rather than ending up with a sad split down the side.
Also, sauces and mustard get trapped in the cuts. Small detail, surprisingly good payoff.
Topping Bar Ideas
- Classic Condiments: Ketchup (a controversial topping around here!), mustard, and relish for those who love the traditional route.
- Cheesy Goodness: Shredded cheddar, nacho cheese sauce, or American cheese.
- Onion Craze: Caramelized onions, raw diced onions, or crispy fried onions for a bit of a bite.
- Spice it Up: Jalapeños, banana peppers, or chili sauce for a kick of heat.
- The Pickle Bar: Dill pickles slices, sweet pickle relish, or pickled red onions for a tangy twist.
- Creamy Creations: Coleslaw, sauerkraut, or avocado slices for a smooth contrast.
- BBQ Lovers: BBQ sauce, pulled pork, or crispy bacon bits for a smoky flavor.
- Fresh Toppings: Tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or sprouts for a refreshing crunch.
- Chili Magic: Homemade chili, canned chili, or chili beans for a hearty and warming topping.
